This reproduction sampler's perfection lies in its imperfections. Stitched by a 9-year-old British child, this sampler's few missing letters, the unevenness of each of the lines of the alphabet, and the asymmetrical misplacement of some of the motifs show that Mary Carr was still learning her craft. As you stitch, you will experience the sheer joy this little girl must have felt creating something so simple, but so beautiful, for the world to enjoy.

Cross stitch is primarily used throughout, with the exception of one row of silk stitches and two rows of eyelet stitches. My design includes instructions so that you can easily learn these two stitches even if you are a novice!

This is the paper version of the cross stitch pattern Mary Carr 1803.  If you prefer a digital copy of this chart, please click here.
