The original sampler stitched by Esther Iddison was a crewel and cross-stitched sampler that used wool on linen. Esther was 16 when she stitched this sampler and her beautiful acorn and block border shows her skill. The red home in the sampler is Esther's home where she grew up - Dishforth in Yorkshire, England.

Fabric:  36 count "Vintage Examplar" linen from Lakeside Linens

If you want to use wool to stitch with the designer recommends stitching on 32 count "Vintage Examplar"

The number of cotton skeins is included in parenthesis. Colors without numbers require only 1 skein. If you wish to stitch using wool thread use the same colors as listed for cotton.  Each color stitch using wool will require substantially more skeins, the number of which is provided in the pattern.
